How to play with your new Android phone

After a series of switching phones, I’m deciding to stay with my HTC Desire.

For those who are new to the smartphone scene, there are pretty much two safe options: iPhone or the Android.

Quite a few companies make phones with the Android operating system, but I would go to HTC for the most reliability and support. Samsung is relatively new even though Google (Android is developed by Google) let them produce the new Nexus S, which is the developer’s flagship phone. The one I have, Desire, is still relatively new, capable, no big flaws, and is quite standard.

First if you want a custom experience, you’re going to want to root and install a custom ROM. How you would go about doing this is:

Follow the steps here:

And pick a ROM from any of the threads here:

Which one to pick? Just sort the threads by amount of views/replies and that should give you a clear indication of which ones are the most popular ones. You can’t go wrong with any of the top viewed threads. You’ll be looking for the ROM zip file, and then following the directions from the first link to flash that custom ROM.

Wishing everyone a happy new year!

P.S. Screw the new year resolutions bullshit, if you actually wanted to change something in your life, you can do it anytime. Bad habits will always stick no matter what time of the year it is if you let them manifest and repeat themselves.
